Wanting to set up the Lightspeed integration? Learn how to integrate Toggle with Lightspeed here.

As with any integration, there are limitations and nuances to be aware of. Familiarise yourself with them here.

Selling a card

1) If the guest wants to buy a gift card, select the ‘Toggle’ button:

2) This will bring up the Toggle interface within the Lightspeed app. You’re presented with three options: 'Sell', ‘Check a balance’ and ‘Redeem’.

To sell a card, click ‘Sell’:

3) The next screen shows you the payment you need to take on the till. Take payment from the customer using your normal methods e.g. via your card payment device or in cash. Once this payment has been taken, tap Confirm payment has been taken to enable you to tap the right arrow to proceed.

Take a card from your stock in-store, and enter the card number shown on that card on this screen. Press the right arrow when you're done. You can scan the QR code using the built in camera if your device has one.

Ask if they'd like a receipt email. This step is optional but highly recommended. Press the right arrow.

Redeeming a card

Here’s a little run through of how it works on the iPad when someone comes in with a gift card.

1) If the guest wants to pay their bill using a gift card, select the ‘Toggle’ button:

2) This will bring up the Toggle interface within the Lightspeed app. You’re presented with three options: 'Sell', ‘Check a balance’ and ‘Redeem’.

To redeem a card against a bill, click ‘Redeem’:

3) Input the card number using the device keypad, or scan the QR code using the device’s camera. You will need to give the app permission to use the device’s camera:

4) The maximum amount that can be taken off the card for the transaction will automatically show, but the value can be edited before proceeding.

The screen shows the total card value, the basket total, the redemption total, and the amount that will remain on the card after the transaction.

Click ‘Confirm redemption’ if it’s all okay:

5) Lightspeed will confirm the amount paid:

Checking the balance of a card

Here's how to check the balance of a card:

1) Select the "Toggle" button:

2) This will bring up the Toggle interface within the Lightspeed app. You’re presented with two options: ‘Check a balance’ and ‘Redeem’. To check the balance of a card, click ‘Check balance’:

3) Inputting the card number in the same way you to when selling a card, this will then display all the information available on that particular card. Product name, Value, Currency, Price modifier (this could be an experience sub-category, for example)and validity period.

Limitations

Pending orders ‘locking out’ cards

When a card is added to the basket on Lightspeed, we hold that card in stock for 35 minutes. After that time, it is released back into stock.

Multiple cards can’t be redeemed in one transaction

Only one gift card can be redeemed per Lightspeed transaction.

Editing of gift card sale quantity or amount

The number of cards sold must be controlled through the integration. Clicking the pencil icon on a gift card in the basket, and editing it in any way, will cause an error and the card will not be issued. If you wish to sell another gift card, go through the process outlined above.

Sales of gift cards are recorded as Sales in Lightspeed, not liability

The sale of gift cards are recorded as 'sales' in Lightspeed reports, rather than liability or deferred revenue. It is important to account for this in your own processes outside of Lightspeed reports. Learn more about account for gift cards here.

Only supports the sale of cards that have numbers pre-printed on the card

if you have physical cards that do not have numbers pre-printed on them, this integration does not support the sale of those cards.
