Why does my Toggle shop show a 502 bad gateway error?

This error might be because your domain for your Toggle shop needs updating.

The error you are seeing might look like this:

If you copy and paste your Toggle domain (e.g. gifts.myshop.co.uk) into this website here: https://mxtoolbox.com/CNAMELookup.aspx and it says "DNS not found" this means you need to update your DNS from an A Record to a CNAME.

If you're unfamiliar with what this all means, if you have anyone on your team (e.g. IT person or web developer) they might know and also have access to your DNS to make the below edits.

  1. Log into your DNS

  2. Go to the Settings or Advanced Settings

  3. Create a CNAME and use the below details:

  • Host Name -

Set this to whatever word you have at the start of your Toggle domain e.g if your Toggle shop URL is gifts.myshop.co.uk then this should be 'gifts'.

  • Points To (Value) -

Set this to the original Toggle domain you had when you joined Toggle. To find this out, on your Toggle dashboard click on Customise > Domain and click the red 'Reset domain to default' button. After this you'll see what your original domain would have been - it'll look something like my-shop.mytoggle.io. Set your 'points to' or 'value' to that original domain.

  • TTL -

Set this to the lowest option. Ideally 1 hour or 3600 seconds.

After this is done you can delete the A Record you had in place.

Check the changes have worked by copy/pasting your Toggle domain into the website linked above - if you see a green tick, it should be working. Go to your shop and also check it's working there too.
