Setting a delayed validity rule

When you're setting up Gift Card or Experience products on your Toggle dashboard, you will have the option to set the validity rules for it.

These validity rules determine when a gift card can be redeemed and when it expires.

Under the Validity Rules section you'll see a "Cards should become active" option, with a drop down menu giving the following options:

  • Immediately

  • 1 Day after purchase

  • 2 Days after purchase

  • 3 Days after purchase

  • 1 Week after purchase

By default, all gift cards will be set to 'Immediately' which means that as soon as a successful payment has been made for the gift card (in-store or online) the gift card can be redeemed straight away.

If you set this to '1 Day after purchase' this means the customer has to wait a day before they can redeem it.

If a customer attempts to use it before the allocated time, the till or system they try to redeem it on will say the card is invalid.

How this looks on the shop:

If you set, for example, a '1 Day after purchase' rule for your product, this will show up on the product page saying "Card becomes active 1 day after purchase".

The customer buying the gift card will see this and be aware of this rule.

How this looks on the digital voucher:

The customer who receives the digital voucher will see the start date and end date their voucher is valid between.

What option should I pick?

The most commonly used option is the default one - Immediately - which means the gift card can be used straight away after it is purchased.

However, it might be beneficial for you to set a delay of 1 or 2 days if you want to alleviate any issues of fraud, where someone buys a gift card then spends it and then claims a chargeback.

Having the delay set means you have a bit of time to detect from your payment gateway if an order was made fraudulently so you have time to cancel the order on Toggle so it cannot be redeemed.

More info about fraud can be found here.
